Will Barnard is a Chicago based performing musician and composer.
Will released an EP-length recording project in June 2018 entitled "Blue Shift". "Blue Shift" was a self-produced album that features five original space-themed compositions performed and recorded by Will and the Blue Shift band. You can find it HERE on Bandcamp.
Recent performance highlights include a concert with Nicholas Payton and the DePaul University Jazz Workshop, sharing the stage with John Clayton at the Indiana University Jazz Celebration, and a live performance of “Blue Shift” at the New Rhythm Arts Center in Chicago.
Will composes for and leads a number of performing bands in Chicago. “Evergreen” is a mostly acoustic ensemble that plays melody-based compositions with the sensitivity of chamber music. “Cosmograph” is a reimagination of his “Blue Shift” album that plays engaging originals and fun covers. Will has had large compositions performed by the Brent Wallarab Jazz Ensemble and the Cool City Swing Band.
Artists Will has shared the stage with include Nicholas Payton, Brandee Younger, Ignacio Berroa, John Clayton, Dave Stryker, Darmon Meader, and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
Will is a graduate of Indiana University where he studied Jazz Saxophone in the Jacobs School of Music. Will studied with saxophone teachers Walter Smith III and Tom Walsh in addition to brief study with the legendary jazz educator David Baker. While at Indiana University, Will performed with ensembles led by Brent Wallarab, Wayne Wallace, Michael Spiro, Steve Houghton, and Steve Allee. While attending Grammy award-winning Glenbrook South High School, Will performed concerts in New York, Chicago, California, Florida, and at Pearl Harbor.
